Recycling is an example of how in Mexico being “green” has gone from being a fashion to becoming “a lifestyle”, says Jorge Treviño Aguado, executive director of ECOCE. ECOCE (Ecología y Compromiso Empresarial, in English “Ecology and Corporate CommitmentW) is a non-profit environmental civil association created and sponsored by the food and beverage industry to oversee of the recovery of containers and packaging for recycling.

When the organization was founded a little over 15 years ago, only 2% of PET containers were recovered; by 2017, that figure had reached 58%.

“That makes us the Latin American country that recovers the most of this plastic for recycling,,” he says.
